Australia
The UN report on climate change emphasised that we are in an emergency situation. Climate change creates an existential threat to humanity. For over 30 years, scientists have been warning us that in order to leave a habitable planet to the future generation, it is necessary to keep the rise in global temperature to 1.5°C (2.7°F) (agreed at COP21 in Paris in 2015). What is particularly striking is how many of the poorest in the world are the most affected by climate change. Floods, droughts, storms and forest fires all wreak havoc. This week COP26 will take place in Glasgow where further. I was surprised to learn that Australia is one of the worst countries for combating climate change. In international rankings, it stands at 51 out of 58 countries.
